The bibliography contains the references of publications on HIV
and AIDS infection in Burkina Faso published between 1986 and the first
semester of 1996. This review is considered to be exhaustive. It covers
the whole medical field and the social sciences in the following areas:
clinical, biology, epidemiology, public health prevention (information/
education/ communication), care, cultural, social and economic aspects.
The documents recorded fall in the following categories : articles published
in scientific journals long essays and theses, works, work headings mission
reports, documents and work notes with restricted publication and presentations
at colloqys (oral and written) Articles published in the ordinary press
journals as well as reports concerning the activities of different associations
working on the subject of AIDS have not been included.
Besides the main theme (AIDS), the references to sexually transmissible
diseases (STD) and their prevention and recent studies on sexuality have
also been included. Concerning sexuality, this bibliography cannot be considered
as complete for the reason that the various ethnological research works
on the different populations in Burkina Faso were not considered though
they provide an irreplaceable information through the Study of parental
systems and sex relationship. The abundant literature on family planning
was not considered.
